Title: GS1000 Engine/Frame numbers
Post by: hammer on January 11, 2009, 09:56:50 PM
I have a 1978 GS1000 and although the numbers on the bike are what they should be according to the reg. docs, they are not the same. I've been told that they should be(I don't agree) but have found so many conflicting views. Can anyone tell me for certain?

Generally Suzukis of that period didn't have matching numbers as far as I know:

Even though the list shows the C model engines and frames starting from the same number, there's nothing to say that it carried on that way, and by the '78 EC model the numbers are different.

One way to find out would be to contact Suzuki GB, or maybe the Suzuki Owners Club would have the information?

Thanks, I've registered on the owners club site and asked but no one knows for sure. Apparently, early Yamahas matched as did Brit bikes. Found some charts online with GS numbers on bit it was too small and blurred to read. There's some great contacts on the site though, cheers, hammer.
