Excelsior autobyk girder forks.
« on: August 26, 2014, 09:49:54 AM »
Hi I have an Excelsior autobyk ( basket case at the moment) Its a 1949 and the frame number is AX3013. What i dont understand is the construction of the girder forks as it doesnt have the usual main spring in the set up. Does anyone have a diagram or photos on how to assemble it. Any info would be a bonus.  Many Thanks  Bud.

Is the spring missing from your basketcase. ?
This pic of a ~46 is the same as your model ?

More looking at Autobykes reveals mention of 'rubber band front forks'.

If you click a few times to get a bigger pic, this shows what appears to be a heavy rubber band
in the front forks - giving a spring action ?

Cheers.

Good clear big image from the above link - thanks Bonhams !

Speedway bikes have some sort of rubber band suspension. ?
Its probably unlikely that they could possibly fit - but would be worth investigating.
Where they source them from may have some for your application ?
An Owners Club (?) may also have some sources ?
Neat little cycle...
